About The Authors

Jann Keenan, Ed.S., brings over 3 decades in the health literacy and health equity fields. A public health educator, she has written more than 400 print and multi-media materials (booklets, brochures, curricula, videos) and received a dozen national awards for her plain language writing and design, Clients include government agencies, hospitals, universities, pharmaceuticals, and insurance companies. She keynotes and presents on health literacy and disease management and medical adherence at national conference. Jann offers numerous workshops on plain language writing and design. Seasoned in the field of diabetes, she wrote a 6-module interactive curriculum on diabetes for Latinos and served as the health literacy design lead for the Center for Disease Control’s Prevent T2 (type 2 diabetes). She also crafted the communications plan, and wrote and implemented community-based diabetes and high blood pressure management programs offered throughout the states. Jann earned her Ed.S. in Instructional Design from Indiana University.

Julia Wittner, M.A., has more than 23 years of experience as a writer and editor. She develops easy-to-read print and web-based products for diverse audiences that are clear, engaging, and culturally and linguistically appropriate. She served as the Lead Author of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Diabetes Prevention Program curriculum, Prevent T2. The 26-module curriculum is written in plain language and promotes modest weight loss (5-7%) through a 12-month lifestyle change program. Julia earned an M.A. in Magazine Writing and Editing from the Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University.
